Increase in Disc Height and Autonomic Function in a 59 year old Male Undergoing Chiropractic Care

Abstract

 

Objective: Our objective is to review the outcomes on a patient with low back pain and degenerative joint disease undergoing chiropractic care.

 

Clinical Features: 59 year old male presented with a chief complaint of low back pain. 

 

Intervention and Outcome: A comprehensive clinical approach was used including: spinal adjustments, proprioceptive, postural and seated dynamic exercises.  Care involved the use of several Chiropractic techniques to address vertebral subluxations. The patient showed improvement in all subjective and objective findings including an increase in disc height at multiple spinal levels as well as improved autonomic function. 

 

Conclusions: A comprehensive, conservative chiropractic approach is presented.  The patient reported a complete remittance of low back pain concomitant with increased disc height at multiple levels and improved autonomic function. More research on the biomechanical effects of chiropractic is needed.
